Analog Photography App: Capture Notes and Metadata
What is Frames
Frames is a dedicated tool for film photographers who want to stay organised without losing the tactile joy of shooting on film. It is not about simulating analogue effects or applying retro filters. Instead, it is built for people who already shoot film and want a clear, elegant way to document their process, frame by frame. You begin by adding your cameras, lenses and film stocks. These become reusable setups that reflect how you shoot in the real world. When you're out with your camera, Frames lets you record shutter speed, aperture, GPS location and personal notes, either per frame or per roll. The interface is built for speed and simplicity, allowing you to stay focused on the image rather than the app. As you shoot, your archive builds naturally. Each roll is saved with full metadata and becomes part of a searchable library. You can filter your archive by gear, stock or keywords to review and reflect on your work. Export options include .gpx files for mapping your journeys, or .frames files in a readable JSON format for use in personal archives or custom workflows. On the Mac, Frames allows you to embed your recorded data into the metadata of your final image files after scanning. This creates a complete digital version of your roll that preserves the technical and creative decisions made during shooting. Frames is private by design. There are no accounts, no feeds, and no distractions. Your data stays on your device, and the app stays out of your way. It is a quiet companion, built to support your analogue process with clarity and respect.
